Replaced the door / roof seal last weekend, and then last night i thought i would be organised and put the roof back on to bring it to work today.

Well, car still in the garage at home. After 1.5 hours of shoving bashing, lots of silicone spray, several litres of sweat and much swearing i still couldn't get the feckin thing back in.

I managed to chip the T bar too with all the messing around so i am really p!ssed off about that too.

I think it may be the locating pip in the centre of the roof at the front, i noticed the new seal damaged there when shoving the roof in and out, so maybe its pushing up inside the slot of the front windscreen and against the locating bolt, stopping the roof going in.

Anyone been there done that?

Very very upset about the b@stard thing this morning!!!

Hi Rob,

I had the same problem when I replaced my seal. It eventually slotted in, I left the roof on for a couple of weeks, eventually it softened and is no problem now. Persistance!!

Hi rob,
I replaced mine last summer and had to put a little nick in the seal so it sat around the locating bolt at the front.

For the first couple of weeks it helps to tip the roof upwards by 45 degrees get it located at the front and the slowly bring it down (whilst keeping a little forward pressure on it)

If it makes you feel better then I was really happy once it had settled, much less wind noise and no rattley roof so it'll be worth it once u get it sorted!!

Thanks for all the 'it gets better' feedback, i was so brassed off with it last night that i wished i hadnt bothered changing the seals.

I may well put a nick in the top seal too - there is just no way it is going in with things as they are, and i dont want to risk further damage to the T Bar.

Rob,
Just after buying my car, I replaced the (continuous) seal around the roof/doors. I used the profile from Woolies as someone advised on this forum.

On completion, I too had loads of problems - roof a real b**ch to get on, and as for the doors - well, the windows just wouldn't close. So, I put back the original seal and thought I'll pick the guys brains @ STR8Six. They advised the silicone spray and perseverence.

In the end, I was browsing RaceTech direct's site and noted they had OE seal rubber on offer. Result was perfect - much better fit. Still had to use silicone spray initially, but it's bedding in nicely now. The difference between the Woolies profile and the RaceTech stuff was not detectable, but there must have been some difference.

Enlisted the help of my dad who was up for the weekend....with a bit of pushing and locking in one side at a time, it went in.

Its staying on for a few months now for the seals to bed in!!!!

Hi all

This sounds like a nightmare but glad there is light at the end of it!

My question is how hard is it to actually change the seals and is it worth it in the end?

The main variable is what height the windscreen has been bonded in

Very easy to change the seal, just pull off the old one and fit the new, using a rubber mallet or similar to bash it on.

as others have said not difficult or time consuming to do, but a PITA once done hehe

Actually wind noise is much reduced and, combined with the rear screen work i did recently, i have a virtually squeak free cabin, so i'd say its worth it....

Leading edge tape round the top of the screen where it slots into the T bar, racetech stainless window clips, new seal....
