I have just purchased a new reg for my Tuscan and I am wondering what other people have used to fix their registrations to their cars. I don't want to screw them on, I just want to use the sticky plates like the ones on the previous registration. I have found the tape on Halfords (see link below) but don't know whether it is suitable enough or not.

Many Thanks,

The double sided tape with various foam inserts does work reasonably well.

However with a vehicle capable of cruising at 100 plus (in appropriate circumstances abroad etc) and exceeding 120mph I would not trust it to hold for long.

With such a car a more positive fixing is needed. Screws re the only really solid way IMO.

Bit of a dilemma. But none of the adhesive strips I know can offer the positive grip of screws.

I find the sticky pad ridiculously adhesive. To the point where I can't get the plate off without thinking I'm going to break the bodywork!

Agreed, never had one come off at any speed and they do not want to come off when you are changing them either

Had my rear plate (attached with double sided foam) fall off when parked - the sticky bit had come unstuck after many years. A bit of impact adhesive on the foam sorted it out though!

I used those same pads from Halfords for the rear plate - so far so good. Plus being black, you don't notice them at all. Many pads come in white, which can notice easily.

I would recommend peeling the dark (green?) side first - absolute pain to get off! - and then stick to plate first leaving the white side to peel off when you are ready (much easier to get off compared to the dark/green side).

For the front I screwed the plate on - could not see the sticky pads working for that one. Rear is fine.

Surely pads are fine. At 80mph you would need pads or glue, its only when you slow down that it may fall off smile
