3.6 engine or 4.0
Discussion
Tha depends really
When I was looking I saw engine of both types that needed a rebuild, and engines of both types that were fine.
The 4.0 litre has a bit more torque and a little bit more power, but unless you drive the two back to back IMO you can't tell that.
I wanted peace of mind, so I went for a car with a warrantied rebuild. When you look at history's there are cars that have had several re-builds, so going for one with a warranty and/or by a very well regarded engine builder was one of my criteria.
I like the fact that if I think the engine is making a noise it shouldn't, I can take it to TVRPower and be told not to worry, any problems belong to them

Hardly any difference TBH, the 4.0 has a little more torque but nothing really noticeable on a drive. I have no problem keeping with 4.0s on a run.
The 3.6 is IMHO a little happier to rev freely but again not by a huge amount. As for rebuilds I know of both types that have required this but then again people also say the 3.6 is slightly less stressed and therefore potentially mroe reliable, though how true this is I don't know.
Personally, I'd go for the car with the best history and maintenance record rather than limit myself to one engine.
