I've fitted a new LED in my early Tuscan which seemed to work fine on local drives. Went for a drive of about an hour and half and after about an hour it started to fade away. Once I had stopped and had a break of about an hour it came back but again after about an hours driving it started to fade again. It does not lose any numbers or letters its the whole thing thats fading. Has anyone had this problem with a new replacemnt LED.

Hi,

I also have this issue- no idea what the fix is tho. I believe the screen was replaced shortly before I bought the car. Mine seems to fade quicker than 1hour though. I'd appreciate help on this one too!

I would bet its the connection.

I re fitted one and it was fine, only for it to keep losing half the screen, a little manipulation at the back and its good again, so i need to find out where its not contacting properly.

That is if i'm thinking the same thing as you.

There was a batch of bad screens at one stage, search ph for the thread. It was the enhanced ones.

Its quite possibly the contrast gents. Its an option in the pod setup somewhere.

When i did the group buy i purchases 60 odd screens and soldered on the connector's myself. When i installed in my car it had worked perfectly initially (i didnt test drive for any period of time, just switched on whilst sat on the drive), but the bloody thing went black after 10 minutes of driving....so clearly i had a heart attack having sold 60 of the bloody things!

Anyway, once the sweating slowed and i was able to think clearly, i adjusted the contrast and hey presto one very clear screen.

Spoke to the supplyer today and they seem to think that there is a problem with some of the early Tuscans having a problem with the boards in the dash getting to hot. Not so sure about this as I never had that problem with the old one and I have been to the south of France at least 6 times in the hight of summer and this is winter driving when it's happening.

the actual display stays pright green for me. its the reading that fade. eventually i just end up with a bright green screen with very faint read outs of temp/RPM/fuel etc. tends to happen after about 30mins of driving.

are you getting the same?

Thats what mine did- double check all connections.

Is it difficult getting to the connections? Am i likely to 'upset' anything else whilst doing it?

I think it should be easy enough tbh, mine was fine after messing about making good contacts, drove it for a while and was fine, then half the screen went off. if i push the boards together tighter then it comes on.

i'm not sure how ill fix mine as the little screws between each board sort of determine how tight it all is but i'll have a fiddle with it, at least i know why its now doing it.

I had this with mine after a winter off the road! Happened when the mileage reset itself to zero as well!

Spoke to Green Star and Cath who diagnosed it as a battery fail within the pod causing it to fade out!

Symptoms regarding the screen dying out are very similar to mine!

Be very careful with the ribbon cables. I broke mine and had to re-solder the connections, since then I've had this fading screen problem after about 20 mins of driving.

Is it difficult getting to the connections? Am i likely to 'upset' anything else whilst doing it?

grrrrrr

tried fixing mine today, i have found that the little screws that go between each layer of circuit board are actually smaller on the first course iykwim, so i put them in and it had almost all pixels back.

Then like a prick i broke the ribbon cables frown got the soldered back up and then the little knob isnt working properly, its making a clicking noise, i hope its due to the voltage having dropped to 10v so it will be getting charged and tried again.

Basically its turing on and then getting stuck on the rpm readout, pressing button to skip through does nothing except make an audiable click like when you try and turn the car over with a flat battery/

I hope its the battery as tbh im getting fked off now (must have taken pod apart 20 times frown )

I'm still new to Tuscan ownership but have had a few dash gremlins so took the pod apart at the weekend. I found that the main connector here

had lots (and I mean lots!) of dry joints on the PCB

I resoldered all of those and my niggles (turn indicators sometimes not lighting up and speedo randomly dropping to zero) seem to have been cured - fingers crossed.
I can't see that it would affect the LCD contrast at all but whilst you're in there it's worth a look.
