I have a small fluid leak under the gearbox. No problem with selecting gears although the clutch bite point seems a little higher. Occasionally 1st gear jumps out on releasing the clutch, this could be the driver as I have been driving an automatic as a daily drive.

I am thinking slave seals starting to go. I have the AA garage and parts warranty which means I would need to wait for a failure before claiming. Any thoughts?

No idea on the jumping out of gear but the bite point will get lower if the slave is leaking. Last time mine went it lasted about a week from starting to leak to being unable to get it into gear.

You should be able to tell from the colour and smell of the fluid whether it's gearbox or clutch.

Thanks, that's interesting, the jumping must be due to driver error. The fluid is certainly corrosive as it has lifted the garage floor paint. What are the different colours of gearbox and clutch fluid. I am guessing gearbox is red ATF and clutch is dot 4 brake and clutch fluid...brown?

Yes, if it's taken the paint off then prob clutch fluid.

Could it be the clutch master if it isn't the slave?

The master is in the pedal box inside the car.

If it's dripping from the bottom of the bellhousing/gearbox joing then sounds like slave.

It's corrosive so I think it must be dot 4 rather than engine oil.

Thanks mate, I'll keep an eye on it and get it changed under AA warranty when it fails...if it does!

Someone has suggested adjusting the clutch stop. Is this easy to do or best left to a specialist?

I adjust mine so it just releases when fully depressed, with a fairly low pedal start point. You can adjust the combination of master cylinder push rod length/pedal linkage pivot leverage/pedal stop to give the travel and pedal height that you prefer.
