After near 3 years of Chimaera ownership, it has now gone off to Germany, and some hunting around TVR's I have decided to buy a Tuscan , actively looking now. Budget not huge, but can see cars in my range in the classifieds.

The question, with the rather unusual bonnet arrangement, what is the protocol and view on lifting the bonnet to see the engine and some chassis and suspension.

Do private sellers usually accommodate?

Seems mad design by the way and I see some have converted.

Can’t see how I could buy without seeing underneath?

Thanks

It's not very difficult or time consuming to take it off if you have 2 people so I would presume most sellers would/should oblige so long as you're happy to help lift it off!

It's only if you're on your own that it's almost impossible to do which is why some (Inc me) have added some hinges.

I went from a 450Chim to a Tuscan and it's been great. Very different cars but same sense of occasion and excitement!

If i was buying a Tuscan i would want to see it on a lift
also would need speed6 engine "expert" to look at it as they all sound mechanically noisy to me

you can soon throw huge sums of money at an average car

I could take the bonnet off mine on my own.

I took it off when people looked at my car, but to be honestthere isnt that much to see. You want an air box without holes, any fluid leaks are eveident under the car

Just taken a deposit on my tuscan and subject to a small deposit I would have been happy to remove my rocker cover and perform a compression test as this is of major interest to any genuine buyer providing they knew what they were looking at. I was very confident that all was perfect under there and Its only an hour to hour and a half worth of my time and if it means a sale then could be well worth the effort. My engine had been rebuilt but I do feel that to much emphasis has been put on the must have rebuild and overall condition is far more important as bodies and chassis' are far more expensive to put right properly. Good luck with finding a car.
