First question Coolant level
Discussion
Just did a run and then idle till fans cut in to do an oil level check.
Noticed I lost some coolant , from the filler cap I believe. I did take it off last night and I suspect did not tighten enough.
Question is when cold and I check level book says 10mm coolant visible, is this 10mm sitting in horizontal section of filler neck or 10mm from top of round filler top ?
I take it filler cap is VW ? I might buy another tomorrow, sure this is where the fluid came from.

10mm from the horizontal piece, top it up but it will find it's own level, on mine it doesn't matter how much I put in it settles with about 3-5mm in the horizontal. Think you're correct about it being a VW part, not had to purchase a replacement.
They do all seem to find their own level. I work on the premise that the diagonal weld in the filler should be just covered. The sure test is that when you top up, the addition of not more than 1/2 litre should cause the coolant level to change. The pressure cap is from a VW Golf Mk.2...and some SEAT models (perhaps earlier Skodas too?). I would STRONGLY recommend that you buy an original part (around about £12) from a VAG dealership...the pattern parts are rubbish in my experience, they may be much cheaper but are sh**te.
