cracked cylinder head
Discussion
Getting a fair bit of work done on the car at the moment, 12k service, some electrical work and bits & pieces.
a hairline crack has been discovered on the cylinder head, with the option on either welding the crack our a rebuild. A small amount of oil is leaking but been told I can drive it home just now if I'm wanting to leave a rebuild till next year. bit of a downer and unexpected, what's the best options regarding a rebuild? if rebuilding is it worth going 4.3?
very confused TVR owner.

several options with rebuilds, racing green, TVR Power, Str8six all do very good rebuilds.
Also depends how much you want to spend. the 4.3 Supersports is a fair bit more expensive than a standard rebuild, as is racing greens FFF (finger follower free) set up. Dont know so much about str8six stuff.
Best thing to do is ring around each of these garages and see what they can do. TVR Power probably offer the best comfort of the mind with their engine warrenties. Racing Green can reduce the complexity of the engine by getting rid of the finger followers, as for str8six, i dont know so much. Either way, they all offer various upgrades or a standard engine rebuild. All depends how much you want to spend...
I am sure there will be plenty of recommendations about to come your way...

Jason apparantly uses parts supplied by TVR Power.
The question is do you want more power? If so go 4.3 otherwise a standard rebuild from Power or Str8Six is probably the most cost effective for knowledge and peace of mind. When I researched it a couple of years ago Power offered the longest warranty (mine had 5 years 100k miles, their standard is 3 years).
I was worried mine was making odd noises, I could just pop into power, Dom would look at it, tell me not to worry and drive it like I stole it

You should try Dave at RND Engineering http://www.rndengineering.co.uk/
Not a name I've heard of before, worth a call though.Spoke to TVR Power yesterday, and now trying to decide between a 4.3 and 4.5 rebuild :s Pretty sure I don't need the 4.5, but when spending the money anyway it seems daft not to, how will the 4.5 effect everyday driving?

RND have not seen that name (in this context), site (and price) lloks good : you have any experience with them ?
I sure have, you should really give Dave a call. I've recently fitted RND's re-designed finger followers, high volume oil pump, GT camshafts, valve springs, new conrods and made heaps of mods recommended by Dave. Super helpful.
Pick the re-designed one....

My engine is being removed as I type this and should be with Dom either tomorrow or first thing Monday, then it's 3-4 weeks wait and 1000 miles of tentative driving before seeing if I made the right decision, TBH I can't wait and am like a child before Christmas at the moment.
