Speed bumps

A simple question. What are Tuscans like when it comes to crossing speed bumps in the road. I am reliably advised that there can be an issue.

As I live on an unmade road and our current Chim lightly grounds if not careful is a Tuscan a real option for me?

ive not had any issues with mine! also have the s splitter on the front. the one thing i do avoid is going over the middle of the annoying speedhumps that 4x4's can go straight over without really touching. annoying for the people behind but go over them with patience and you should be fine!

Speed pillows are a nightmare in the Chim.

As far as I can research a 'standard' Tuscan, if such a thing exists, should have a ground clearance of 120mm at the front and 102mm at the back. Less than the Chims 132mm. An 'S' Tuscan may be as little as 108mm at the front due to the splitter.

My search for a Tuscan continues in the belief that it will be able to access my driveway.......just.

For me it is speed pillows , that I can not cross, I either have to go arround them, in the middle of the road, or use an alternative route.

Also the harsh often yellow, plastic speed bumps,in car parks, ground me in the middle.

Is it to do with wheel size ?
some cars on 17'' and some on 18''. I am on 17''.

As for official ground clearance measured front and back, the middle of the car is lower than the ends.

I have been over some pretty big speed bumps in my T2. I had to drive over a massive one at the end of our road in North London for 6 months, pavement height at the crest, and levelled out for 4ft as a pedestrian crossing, it then dropped away again. Other half had to get out the first & second time to check all was okay, which it was, just.

As stated above, the ones to watch out for are the pillows, I too use the middle of the road when safe, avoiding the crest of the pillow down the centre of the underneath of the car.

I've found that my T2 is better at clearing them than my Chim, which always felt lower

I would agree with the above. My Griff grounded out at every opportunity even after raising the adjustable shocks 1.5 and 2.5 inches front rear. My mk1 Tuscan has never been a worry over speed bumps of any kind, its the pot holes that are the problem.

Thanks for all the responses. I measured the Chim today and found that I only had 90mm (3.5") clearance on the exhaust pipe at about the mid point, hence my problems. So much for a published ground clearance of 132mm!

So the Tuscan at a published 102mm (4") should be better unless anyone knows of any other bits a pieces hanging off the underside that may be less than 102mm.

I am hopefully viewing a Tuscan tomorrow and will probably spend most the time flat on my back with a tape measure.
