Why do I keep putting up with it? Lots of parts needed!
Discussion
... I guess I know why, but I've just spent the afternoon dismantling the front end of my Tuscan. The one positive was that I finally got to have a good look at the 4.5 I spent all that money on
.
The service bonnet release cable stopped working a week or so ago, so today I went through the relatively straightforward job of removing the service bonnet (after first removing lip spoiler and grille to get easier access), then the main bonnet, to see that (as expected) it had snapped. No major shakes, except yet again I find myself thinking "my other car doesn't do this". The 996 wouldn't have presented me with every single bolt being seized and now requiring replacement, nor would it
- have given me the opportunity for a close up view the the front end could really do with a bit of a respray, only 100's of miles after a full respray
- that the air con condensor that has spewed most of it's core
- that the wiring to the horns (and at least one if not both horns) needs some work
All a bit depressing really, and leaves me with a small shopping list and a few hours work to put back together next weekend, and this is on top of all the other little jobs that always seem to accompany TVR ownership (although I don't remember my second Chimaera being such a drama queen).
Part of me wants to moan about wanting a car that "just works", but in my heart I know the Tuscan is that car, I just need to fix it.
So, recommendations for:
1. Horn(s) - it's not the first time mine have failed, has anyone fitted anything aftermarket that is a bit better against the elements (and suitably beefy sounding?)
2. Condenser - it's a Sanden MFC-2068ae. Anyone know the cheapest place to buy one? I think they are fitted to quite a lot of vehicles, certainly not Tuscan-specific.
3. Bonnet release cable - is this a case of paying the (probably slightly scary) TVR price, or is there a cheap, reliable fix?
4. I could do with a monster selection of TVR-sized nuts and bolts - any suggestions? Ones that won't corrode in seconds would be good.
Of course, now I have the bonnet off I had best fit the hinges Mr Chips sent me. Which means I'm going to *have* to get a carbon airbox
