Driving to work this morning dash temperature reading 71 on the motorway. Come into town, stuck in traffic and temps rise to 95, the fans don't kick in! I have had this problem a few times before on both my Tuscan and previously on my Chimaera, nearly always turns out to be the Otter switch.
A couple of questions;
Where is the otter switch located on a Mk1 Tuscan?
How easy is it to change?
What part number is it I need?
Has anyone done a guide to doing this? (fecking search function still not workig!!!!!)
I will check the connections to the fans first to make sure they are not corroded. I seem to recall being able to check the otter switch by using a paper clip? (I assume by making a contact between the two "prongs", has anyone done this or can explain how to?

Fans are sequential, switched by the ecu based on "ecu" coolant temp sensor - which is as described, under the airbox btwn 3 & 4 throttle bodies/just below.
My first check would be fuses, then relays, then the connectors on the fans themselves. Just like the Chimaera, the connectors tend to get corroded and either stop the electricity or pop fuses because resistance is too high.
Once you've gone through above, switch on & start engine, then if you pull the plug on the ecu sensor - both fans should run...and confirm electrical continuity.

I my case it is usually corroded or lose connections.Could be fuse or relais also.
Check all fuses, as fuses not always on the same place the handbook shows.
On the Griff a hidden broken wire caused trouble recently and a lot of headache.
