Going going gone...

Sold the Tuscan and off it went to a chap from Germany. He called me tueday afternoon and was ready to take her 10am Wednesday morning. Unfortunately He came with 500 euro notes and we had a nightmare changing them so he had to wait another 24 hours for funds to clear. I had no idea we did not accept 500 euro notes here in the uk!
What I did like about selling the car was he looked at it, he drove it and pretty much paid the asking price. No messing around, job done.... Shame to see her go.
I'm sure the new owner will have lots of fun..

It's a wierd note. UK banks will take them but it depends on context and it generally isn't worth the hassle, especially outside a big city. The sole intent of this note was for the Euro to secure some of the global black market volume that is almost all done in USD. It's the easiest first world paper currency to transport in bulk. As such it is used for illegal activities and so most institutions swerve it as its not worth the ML requirement hassles which are stripped to minimum by retail banks so as to make life for clients as easy as possible and so basic procedures often are insufficient to handle these transactions so they just don't do them.
Maybe the banks had not got enough money on stock and used the 500 notes as excuse.
I can rememeber when I tried to cash my credit card to pay for a used TVR.
It would have needed 3 banks to get the full amount eventually.
Finally we managed without cash and transfered to sellers account directly at his bank to the big relief of the same.
Maybe because it was only a very small town called Weybridge, somewhere a bit south of London.
