Hi all. Im having problems starting the car. It will not turnover - battery seems ok, just click, click, click, click, click when I try to start the car. It will jump start, but it's just not turning over. So is it the starter motor (which only has a few thousand miles on it) or a fuse or something else? When running, battery voltage fluctuates between 13 - 16 volts which is more variance than usual. And then ALL electrics fail intermittently but very infrequently and only for a moment. Help please!

If it jump starts the starter motor would appear to be OK. Would be best to check the 100 amp fuse between the alternator & battery this is located underneath the back of the air box, these can fracture overtime & is best to replace with a 125 amp midi fuse.If this fuse has gone the battery will have received no charge and gone flat so would need to be put on charge, how much it will recover depends on the age of the battery,

Sorry, I meant the car will push start, not jump start. The battery has power, but the starter motor won't turnover - it just clicks.

Almost definitely the starter. Mine used to do this until it was replaced. Embarrassing at the petrol station.

Check your earth first before you buy any new parts, jump lead to the engine block then earth to chassis, see if it jumps into life. It happened to me.

If the battery is recent and your earth's are good...my money is on the starter too. I had starting problems this year and it turned out to be the starter...after changing the battery and double checking the earths.

I fitted the uprated starter which makes a huge difference hot and cold, she fires up first click when warm now...

Sound advice from Rob.

However, I'd also try removing the starter and cleaning the shaft/spring and 'spur' gear. Did this on mine and it improved the starter no end. The motor operates in a hot environment and I found the spur gear would not slide easily on the motor shaft due to heavy carbon/dirt deposits.

A clean up and spray with electrical restorative with some silicon grease on the shaft really helped.

Thanks all for your help. It turns out that the battery is kaputt so at least that's is an easy fix.
