heater blower access = odd

Hi all
After some ongoing niggles with the heater it finally packed up on the toy run sat.
Starting making some squeeling sounds when cornering right (maybe water ingress) So got it in the garage last night whipped battery out expecting to be able to see heater....Nothing, its all enclosed.
Do i gain acces from cutting a whole above the battery or does it some how wiggle out of the air hole it blows through.
Checked exterior pins on ecu and all seem fine, maybe worth looking inside?
The fan does try to spin, just not very fast and makes a whiring noise.
Any help or advise would be splendid

You're on the right track.
Remove front N/S wheel, disconnect & remove battery. Access to blower is through a siliconed on hatch on the 'outside' of the battery compartment - use a craft knife to cut through silicone - then pull off.
You can just see end of motor peering into the 'cavity' between inner and outer wing. The electrical supply is obvious - spray terminals with contact cleaner.
To remove the blower motor, you have to remove the 'hot' box cover from the top(under bonnet) and then the cold box (with exchanger, if you have aircon). You can leave all the pipework connected - just push to one side. The fixings for the blower motor should then be visible.
Before you get to removing the heater and a/c 'boxes' check that both of the drains from the 'boxes' are clear. I used a net curtain spring to rod out the drains - and got a fair bit of water out!!?? I guess the water sloshes about and interferes with the stepper motor operation and the flap.

The siliconed on hatch is grp...you have probably seen that. It's shaped to go over the diagonal chassis tube - so needs a bit of wiggling to clear that, and on replacing.
The whole blower/stepper motor/hot and cold 'boxes' do seem prone to getting water in.
So definitely worth rodding out the drains and trying heater after that. A good spray with electrical 'restorative' into the end of blower motor helps too. At least you might get some into the commutator/brushes/bearings - - which can only help.
