Hello all,

just installed a new battery. I note that the positive terminal of the battery sits very close to the heat shield material. Is this suspect, or is it ok like that? It seems likely to me that there may be a common mod to give some extra insulation to what may be chassis potential.

I assume that the battery 'gable end' should be hard up against the chassis rail (engine side). The clamp mechanism seems rather poor.
Thanks for any advice.

It's the same on a Tamora but I managed to get a battery with +ve on the opposite side and the cables reach ok. I think there was a bit of rubber sheet over the battery when new so I guess that's would work but seemed a very poor fix to me.

I've insulated mine with a section of mtb inner tube tie wrapped around the +'ive connection. Also replaced the clamp bolt with a decent stainless bolt and nylock nut!

Yeepp! Standard TVR OE - a bit of rubber sheet draped over the +VE terminal.

IMHO, I don't see the reduction in risk by transposing the +ve and -ve terminal post on the battery...it could still short on a chassis tube either side...all MHO.

I am looking at a better clamping system thought to really hold the battery in place.

You can get the Ultima red top battery with the connectors more towards the middle. Would be a good solution if you need to replace (very good battery also).

It may be different in the Tamora but with the terminals reversed the +ve is not near a tube. The terminal on the new battery are also slightly more in board.

OK thanks for replies folks. I think the only issue I would have had with the red top battery would be that there are no lugs on the 'gable end' for the clamp to pick up on.
I'll try the cable tied inner tube section suggestion. Everything else in there seems to be in good condition still (10 years old now).

The clamp isnt up to much anyway, and if you fit the larger 096 type battery you cant use it effectively anyway as you have to cut the lugs down!

I have used some heavy duty tie wraps around the battery as a second brace, and insulated the chassis from any possibility of touching.
