Was very tempted, but didn't have the time to register with the online auction house to bid frown

Wondered if someone on PH bought it? Seems like a good car from the research I did. Reg LJ51 KOV. Previously sold by Str8Six and had an engine rebuild.

Surprise surprise. Northeast salvage bought it. Relisted on ebay already.

Would need a lot of work ; cat S means structural damage (chassis etc) and must be referred to DVLA for re-registering.

There's a renovated cat N with lots of parts / work done for only £3000 more - probably a more economical buy :

From visible photos, it looks like bodywork only, plus exhaust and possible suspension components. Insurance assessors are not particularly known for their specific vehicle expertise, especially for body-on-chassis cars. Many a heavy damaged car I've seen as cat N (old D)

It would take a lot bigger impact than that to damage the chassis on a TVR.

There was someone who commented on one of the Facebook posts who worked for the company who did the assessment on it. This is what he said about the damage "There is some suspension damage and it's pulled one wishbone lug open on the chassis so that needs replacing but luckily it's the rear lower one so easily accessible to weld a new one on and it needs the wishbones and damper replacing on that corner."

Fair enough, I hadn't considered that suspension impact would damage the damper or suspension arm location lugs. It's the main bars that would take a heck of a smack to damage. I'm sure some use of a heavy adjusting tool would bend a lug back. wink

Welding a new one one wouldn't be a massive job with the right skills, I'm sure, if it's broken off, but it does make it cat S instead of N. frown

It was my car before the accident and was very sad that it was written off. I was quoted £25,000 + VAT to fix it, so it was a quick decision for it to be written off. It was in very good condition prior to the accident, strong engine, paint in good condition, had been reliable for five years, maintained by Jason at Str8Six each year on a no expenses spared basis, with lots of service history.

Here was my Readers Ride thread, though hadn't updated since late 2023.

Cold damp day in late November, had been out driving for an hour and a half or so and it had brightened up and hadn't rained all morning, had been being cautious but came out of a services and gave it in a little more throttle than I should have, back end stepped out and I think I overcorrected and suddenly found ourselves going backwards down the slip road. Hit the barrier backwards. We were fine if a bit shaken, and frankly was a little surprised at how much damage there was, but guess that's the nature of fibreglass. Was recovered to Str8Six but quote was 25k+VAT to fix so was always going to be written off.

Very sad, I loved that car, and it was good to me.

Hard to see how the described damage could add up to 25k+VAT to fix, = £30,000 bill. Somebody was adding a BIG margin ...

Just ask Heath for the cost of a full respray in Cascade Indigo ,,, never mind a twisted chassis and bodywork smile

From experience, damage to the wishbones can also stretch all the holes on the suspension mounting plates, so even though they look ok with the bolts in place, the whole corner could need repairing. Body off, chassis repair & recoat £6k?, body repairs and full respray £15k? You soon get to £25k pricing it as a properly done job.
