how fast can you go with the rear screen in?

Just wondering. Up to 80 odd mph seems fine although I can hear a low bass rumble type noise caused by buffeting much above that so I don't want to go much faster. What are my fellow tuscaneers' experiences?

Been over 100mph...
But then I didn't know yet that the screen could pop out at those speeds

I'm sure it just depends on the build of the car, how snug a fit the window is. I think I could, hypothetically, do over 150 and the window not budge :-)

I take it the window coming out is caused by the bottom catches releasing ? Or can the window be sucked out with the bottom catches still intact ?

Think a lot of it is pot luck. there were many tales of rear screens departing at just 60mph. If going topless I always remove the screen just in case.

By mistake I left one of the catches off...

Made it up to about 90mph before the screen disappeared down the road!

To be honest, I have never taken the roof off without taking the rear screen out too - just don't want to risk it....However, the size of my screen and the way it sits really tight in the top hoop and below the back of the boot, I can't see it ever popping out, even if the clips snap. (touches wood)

I never went above 50 mph in mine, not for the fear of losing the screen, but the bufferting was so uncomfortable, we needed ear defenders, tryed a few different things, to no avail, simply..roof off window out!

I've had 2 Tuscans for 6.5yrs & never thought twice about the rear screen; I hardly ever take it out. Certainly seems OK up to "adequately quickly" and a fair bit beyond. Buffetting massively reduced by having both windows open btw.

My window fits like a d1ck in a shirt sleeve (unbuttoned)
This is due to the bottom clips being slack (2000 model) and a must renewal.nt air pressure.
Because of the clips, my window drops low and so is not retained very much at the top so I fully expect that it will fly out with sufficient air pressure.

However, I have not had a problem at 80 mph with windows down.
Not had the roof off yet as I only bought her in October and she has spent 5 months from post purchase at the doctors getting a good seeing to.

I reckon that driving at speed with the rear screen in/roof off, then most certainly this will exert excessive force on the already flimsy plastic clips and likely reduce their useful operational service.

Further more in my opinion its irresponsible to drive at speed on a public road with the roof off and rear screen in, consider the vehicle or BIKE behind and what could happen. Roof off = rear screen out every time. I believe it should have been a safety foot note in the owners hand book.

Don't risk the screen at anything above about 60 mph.

I leave the screen in when ambling round town but anything out of town it's screen out...............

On the subject of rear screens, I find that mine squeaks quite a lot. Any hints on how to minimise this? Anything I can spray on the rubber seal to reduce squeekyness?

My car is a Tuscan S and the clips at the bottom are not tight either. Is there a way to adjust them? I find the window slips down and sometimes the boot hinge catches on the bottom of the window when the boot lid is opened.
