whiff of petrol

noticed when out with the roof off the other day that I have a whiff of petrol in the cabin.

This doesnt seem to be coming from the from the bonnet area or the exhaust.

On opening the boot after a blast on Sat, There seemed to be a hint of a petrol smell coming from the boot too.


The other thing I noticed is that there seems to be a flat spot at about 3-4000 rpm - I am wondering if these could be related..

My thinking is that the Lambda sensors are on the way outt - resulting in unburnt fuel going through the system -

I went through a phase of seeing the "EFI Fault" code indicated on the dash a few weeks ago.

Car is a 2000 Tuscan on a Y plate - 31600 miles

Does anyone know if my guess of the Lambda sensor makes sense or is there anything else that might be a good place to start looking

Hi Bob, I had the very same thing with my Tuscan 1 (2000).Plus it was hesitating (misfiring) between 2300 and 2600 revs. The smell of unburnt fuel was commented on by friends. Two new lambda's were fitted and it's back on song. Its always best to get your servicing garage to check though.

that was my thinking initially, but it got worse....

I took it to Sebring in the end, and it was diagnosed with having a cracked fuel tank.

tank out, emptied, repaired, refilled and refitted

- now back on the road waiting for a dry day!!
