Tuscan S 5th gear grinding
Discussion
I have just recently purchased a tuscan S (06/07/2007). It is great to look and to drive (well in the dry), however I am having problems selecting 5th gear. Whether I am selecting under hard driving (180mph today)(keep that quiet though), driving carefully or simply selecting reverse I get an awful grinding noise like it can't catch the revs. Is this a common problem with the car or something I should really see the dealer about?
5th gear isnt a whole lot of fun to use on my (non s) tuscan. It never sounds very health and the box does a whole lot of whiring and doesnt sound too health. IIRC I have read several post about 5th being a little fragile on these boxes.(I never realised but its actually in the manual about selecting another gear before going into reverse)
not much help, just my experiences.

Thanks for that. Not exactly the greatest feeling when selecting it. Will just need to keep an eye on it I suppose. Apart from that the car is a whole lot of fun. Had an evo 8 driver rev as I went past him in town. Thought I would return the favour, promptly embarrased him with a real exhaust note and he and two of his friends were screaming and swearing at me out there car. Oh it felt good!
Sounds like syncromesh on 5th is going. I had this on my Sagaris (allegedly bad batch of gearboxes – why do TVR seem to get the bad batches of all components?) and I’ve driven a couple of TVR loan cars with the same problem. Normally it’s only noticeable when changing from 4th to 5that high RPM.
