Carbon Cans CHECK THEM
Discussion
Had my first small problem in 2 1/2 years of Tuscan motoring last weekend.
Had new Carbon Cans fitted 2 years ago and never really thought about checking them. I had just left home to start a 200 mile journey and had only travelled about 400 metres down our country lane. Heard a metallic clatter and looked in the mirror to see one of my C/Cans rolling down the lane after me
Stopped and went back to pick up the offending item which had no damage due to the very slow speed and I trundled back home.
The jubilee type clip had worked its way loose and at the first pot-hole, the silencer had jumped off the main exhaust pipe. 5 minutes later, the C/Can had been refixed, clip tightened up and I was on my way.
The scary thing is what could have happened on a fast stretch of road had it happened there instead of on a country lane. The C/Can is a weighty piece of steel and would have been quite a dangerous projectile.
Moral of the story......CHECK THE TIGHTNESS OF THE CLIPS ON A REGULAR BASIS. One clip is all that holds the silencer on.
