Door ECU's - Anyone else tried a repair?

On the continuing subject of my door and window problems I had a good go at fixing the problem over the weekend and last night (once I'd replaced my dead battery!)

I took off the door cards and checked the wiring for the door switch on the drivers door wing mirror as the main probelm is it wouldn't open from the outside... All was OK...

I checked and cleaned all the connections (going to seal them before I put her back together) and although a bit corroded and dirty all seemed ok. Tested to check that all connections were made and all was fine.

Long story short...... I decided the problem had to be with the ECU's under the transmission tunnel so I swapped them and the problem moved to the other door. (I know I should have tried this first!).

So thinking it must be a poor joint in the ECU's I stripped them and went to work on some suspect solder joints. Re-fitted and all seems to be working well (touching a large lump of wood) with both doors now opening form the inside and out. I sat in the car and checked all worked ok again this morning and all still fine. So I think it was dry solder joints.

Has anyone else had similar problems with doors as me (see my profile and links to forum questions) and re-soldered joints in the ECU?

Fingers crossed its cured the problem. If not I'm thinking it MUST be the alarm. Anyone else experience problems with their Meta alarm?

Any thoughts on my ECU work and whether my problems could be the alarm would be appreciated.

I had similar problems with my passenger door and found one of the ECU's to be faulty so replaced it with a second-hand one. I still have a "spare" so let me know if your fix doesn't last....however, sounds like you have done a good job and sorted it

Cheers for that. Only time will tell if I've fixed the problem as it's been an intermittent problem since I got my Tuscan a few months back and has got gradually worse in that time. Fingers crossed.

The spare you have is it new? Second hand? Where did you source them from?

I had a new one fitted last month. It actually went wrong when the car was in for its yearly service at Sebring International.

According to Matt at Sebring it is a common problem. So much so that he keeps the part in stock

I got 2 of them from Justin Baker (PH'er on here) via ebay - they came from his MKII Tuscan if I recall correctly so they were second-hand but work fine. The part number is ME0480 in case you need to know. Most dealers carry them in stock but I think they are about £100ish for new ones.

I've seen mention of them being £100 new. I'll see how it goes to see if I've fixed my problems. Could you email me with how much you want for your spare please?
