how loud? CCC's

Im looking at jumping on a track day tomo at Snetterton, but the limit is 105 db will my tuscan with carbon cans be too loud? I have std cans, anyone know the noise level with these on?

in a word yes. I have CCCs (with cats still in place) and goodwood had me at 109db!!

which according to the sound measuring fella due to the algoryhtmic???? scale of measure noise that about 2x as loud as 105db

I keep meaning to stick the std cans on and pop back for another try, Im guessing they must be ok at 105db as this is the max for most "loud" track days and people do defo take thier tuscans on track...

they are surprisingly loud for something that looks virtually identical to the stock pipes. My brother is for some strange reason a porsche fan and owns a 996 turbo with it's own sports exhaust. He described my car as 'one of the best sounding road car engines' he's ever heard.

Well worth the minor hassle of swapping the cans back to standard for the fussier trackdays.

I put the standard ones back on mine at keevil a while back and they were 95db.That was inbetween 3,500 and 4,000rpm,so you should be fine with normal cans.

Had my std cans measured at less than the 98DBs required foe bedford earlier this year - so you should be OK if you put then back on.

Decibels is a "logarithmic" scale. Roughly every 3 dB equates to a doubling of the value, so 108dB is twice as loud as 105dB. It has to be said though that our ears do not necessarily "hear" it as twice as loud

Does anyone know how to measure the db's accuratly.

My H&S Manager decided to measure my Tuscan last Friday, as I always park it tailpipes facing his office window.

From memory the measurement is done at 45 degrees and 500mm away from the tailpipe.

Results were 102db at idle - 127db blipping the throttle.

I do have some fantastic sounding CCC's fitted.

yup thats right, 45 degrees 1/2 a meter, and at 75% of redline according to goodwood. they had thier noise meter attached to a 50 cm stick with a "hooky bit" with a 45% angle on the end that they shoved into the tailpipe to get the correct distance/angle every time. they also had ear defenders which I guess is a wise move if you spend all day at the loud end of powerful cars!
