Window problems

The passenger side window is having problems, when the door is opened the window drops as normal, but when the door pops open the window goes down all the way, once I close the door the window raises slightly but no where near enough, even if I use the alarm fob the window stops short of the up position so I means I have to stay in the car and do the window up after the passenger has got out.

I've read the Door ECU's can have problems so wondering where they are?

You need to remove the door inner. There are some allen bolts in there, you can see them. Wetness plays a part in them not working properly.

a new window encoder should fix it (I had mine replaced yesterday) works perfectly now.

How much is a new encoder ?

I've found the door ECU under the centre consul, unpluged and plugged it back in, worked ok for a bit but I'll see what happens tomorrow. The car had a encoder fitted to the N/S only 12 months ago.

That is one half of the deal and not the bit you need to address.

Encoders are around 35 quid + vat each. I´ve just replaced both mine to cure the exact same problem.

Well after unplugging the ECU it's all working ok still, if it starts playing up again I'll have the door apart

I've had the same problem, for a couple of months. But instead of changing the encoder (again!), I took the encoder out & dried it off with a hair drier. Problem solved!!

Wonder if it's just a case of unplugging one of the modules and reconnecting allows the system to reset?

if its dampness the quick fix is to spray electrical contact cleaner between the glass and the seal to dry out the exposed pcb that sits roughly in the middle of the door.

hay presto the windows work perfectly for about 6 months

Mine have dried out ok in the past, but this time they were terminal. First replacements since new so not bad I guess.

Where is the encoder? Is it the little thing screwed to the motor housing?

I think the Tuscan is playing tricks on me, after working fine all day this evening the door stopped opening full stop, took the door card off and couldn't see much inside, gave small circuit a clean with contact cleaner, also gave all the plugs a go as well, still wouldn't open, after much scratching of my head I thought might as well check the fuse, the 10 amp had blown so replaced and all working again.

how good am I, Im utterly legless, can hardly walk and I just look up £33.50 for an encoder from my TVR Power invoice!

doesnt include fitting they included it in my service cost.

If anyone has still got their old (broken) encoder and has no need for it, would they mind sending it to me cos I want to have a play with them to see if I can fix. I'll send you an SAE if you can PM me.

Per email, now I´ve got mine sorted and working, I´ll send you one of my old ones. The other is beyond redemption and I took the plug off it to make an ecu lead.

Could you post a picture up of the encoder so I know what I'm looking for?

The encoder is the small rectangular pcb with 3 wires coming from it screwed to the front of the window motor.

Many thanks - I don't need the plug as I have my old one - its the board that I need. If you don't want it, I'd even be grateful for the 'beyond redemption' one. Cheers again!
