"Tune up"

Guys,

What would you say is meant by the term "tune up" with regards to the speed six engine? Ive heard people use the term on here and wondered what can be done to it to get running smoother.

I would guess tappets and timing chain.
Can much be adjusted with the throttle pots/buterfly valves?
Can adjustments be made to fuelling and ignition timing with diagnostic equipment?

Im really just thinking of taking mine to an indie for a tune up!

My idea of a basic tune up between services, is cleaning plugs, balancing air flows on throttles, setting idle speed and re setting adaptives etc in ecu. This assumes no specific running problems are being experienced.

I'd have thought most of this should be done on a standard service?? (check over on the laptop, plugs n stuff) and the left overs defo on the biggie (tappets for example).

Yes it is, but I tend to give mine a tweak or two between services.

At SP, Speed 6 tuning means the following:

Balance throttle bodies
Check/ adjust throttle potentiometers
Check/ reset adaptives
Reset throttle settings
Check (and adjust*) throttle stop
Check fault codes

Clearly, any "issues" that may come to light would need further investigation. * Setting max throttle may not be a 30 second job - sometimes it can take a little while to get it right!

We have quite a few customers that have tune-ups in between services. It can certainly make a big difference.

How much would a specialist charge for this, assuming there's no major related issues?
