Strange fault codes

Was driving from Aberdeen to the Borders today and after going through Edinburgh where I was stuck in some major traffic I got a diagnostic code of EFI fault. As well as 'L' realise what that is about!I take it this is the electronic fuel injection? It eventually went away and has not been on since. Is this a major problem or a common fault? Just bought the car, so will still be able to go back to the garage with it. The 5th gear synchro is away also, but thats another story. Pretty common I heard!
Anybody help at all?

Was it wet by any chance?

EFI fault in the wet is very much a case of TADTS (they all do that sir!) IIRC

L is a speedo related error, either transducer might be faulty, bugs in the pod/dash software, or a fault LCD ....

Mine had fault L (as said, speedo/transducer error) throughout it's short life with me.

get "L" on occasion and my speedo, both digital and analogue are not in good order.
In the shop now and these are on the list.

Fault codes below.
I generally get E and L, but they tend to go stop after a short while so dont bother doing anything about them till it goes in for service then I just tell them what it has done.

A - Speedo sensor not activating zero switch or switch broken
B - Speedo sensor not releasing zero switch or switch broken
C - Water level sensor not activating zero switch or switch broken
D - Water level sensor not releasing zero switch or switch broken
E - Fuel level sensor not activating zero switch or switch broken
F - Fuel level sensor not releasing zero switch or switch broken
G - Water level sensor open circuit
H - Air temp sensor open circuit
I - Oil temp sensor open circuit
J - Oil pressure sensor open circuit
K - Fuel level sensor open circuit
L - Erratic road speed sensor input
O - No communications between analogue and control.

L is likely to be a dirty cog/reader issue.

To one side of the diff is a cog with square teeth and a sensor very close to it. These get covered in mud, dirt, oil etc and become erratic.

I often find the "L" error comes up when not catching the bite right when pulling away in 1st or when crawling along at particularly low speeds and rev's. Basically it is the ECU telling you that you are going to slow! Seriously though, if it is rare and intermittent and goes away once you cancel the error then don't worry too much about it. Same for the EFI fault when wet. However, if it is nice and dry and it won't go away and (especially) if the engine doesn't feel right then get it to a specialist asap.

"L" code flashes up when I roll back on a hill slightly, sometimes when the wheels spin and occasionally when braking in a reckless and irresponsible manner. I cancel it using the button and that's that. Understandable, I suppose.

EFI fault - this used to flash up from time to time. Sometimes it would keep recurring, others it would be fine for days. Eventually, I traced it to a loose connector in the boot - the wire that connects to the fuel guage and cut off. Took it apart and reassembled it and no problem since.

My dealer advised me that of all the possible causes for a recurrent EFI fault, the only one that requires immediate attention is if the lambda sensors are knackered which might lead to damaging your cats and wallet. Unfortunately, they didn't let on how I was to know whether it was the lambda sensor - I guess there would be other symptoms.
