Tuscan Roof Problems

Has anyone had a roof mech fail on a Tuscan. It appears a wire cable has snapped (off-side), meaning the rod that fits into the guiding/securing hole in the roof is permenantly protuding as far out as possible - meaning the roof panel can not fit or (or if I eventually do get the roof off) I can't get it back on. I've worked a 'get around' by taking the guiding hole/braket off the roof (two allen keys) but now of course when the roof is on its not secure.

Sorry if all of that sounded a bit long-winded - but it's been a long Sunday.

I'm bascially left with (I think) having to find a new cable/mech. and then worse still - it appears I've got to start taking the car apart to reconnect the cable.

As you might imagine - all and any help/advice gratefully very much appreciated.

always wandered what would happen if the cable snapped.

Hi,
Are you sure its snapped? Mine came out of the mechanism in the boot. It was stii dangling so I was able to pull it to retract the locking pin. Refitting was way beyond my abilities but the dealer was able to fix quickly.

As Di said...one of my cables came adrift at the boot end...all sorted once I had found all the nuts & bolts that previous held it in place.

IIRC, the replacement of a broken cable is a fiddly job that involves small hands, bendy arms and lots of Anglo-Saxon..so best left to a dealer!!!

Mine snapped about 18 months ago....

What a nightmare, but luckly my roof was on.

Ended up taking it to my dealer, who had to remove most of the boot lining and bits by the roll bar.

I think there is a mod out to fix this.

I couldn't get my roof of recently and dropped in to the bodywork people who did my respray and mods. When we had a look it was a combination of two things. Firstly the "lug" on the roof had come loose and slipped forward. This had effectively wedged the retractable pin into the lug. Whilst trying to free this without knowing why it was stuck I managed to bend the very lightweight ally bracket, so once it was free there was no leverage left when the pin was free.

So gentle tap with a electrical screwdriver wrapped in insulating tape to free the pin in the roof (down the joint between the roof panel and the bodywork, followed by brute force to bend the bracket back, backed up by tighening the allen screws in the roof bracket. Peachy. I was warned that the bracket is only araldited to the underside of the boot so not to much brute force !

Of course, if your handle is just dangling down freely then your cable has probably snapped and everything I have just said is largely pointless ! Good luck.
