Taking the beast to france

Off to France for a long weekend with the Tuscan...oh and the missus on Friday, I have driven abroad loads of times before but always in a left hand drive car. When I was a young lad and going on holiday with the parents I have memory’s of my dad painting our Ford Sierra head lights orange before we boarded the ferry. I presume that it’s to stop you blinding people on the other side of the road with the headlight setup.

I suppose my question is this..... is it something I should bother about or should I just try to blind as many French as I can?

I drive all the time in Germany in my Tuscan and have never been flashed for blinding.
Used to get it in my Chimaera but not in the Tuscan.
Was in France for two weeks earlier this year as well, no problems.

I know my lights are handed for left lane driving while I have seen on here that some Tuscans have non-handed lights.

I wouldnt waste your time if I were you.
Have a good drive.

Hi McDudek,

I took my Tuscan on approximately a 5k mile round trip around Europe earlier this year and didn’t get flashed once so you should be fine if your lights are at the correct levels.

To be honest now thinking about it the rear was full with luggage so my lights would have been a little higher then normal (only slightly) and I still had no trouble.

Make sure you take all the gubbings that the different countries require you to have like fire extinguisher, triangle, spare bulb kit hi visibility jacket etc and no matter what…have fun!!

Thanks for advise......looks like i wont bother then, this good news as i didnt want to start messing around with lights!!!

Can anyone recommend any good roads from Calais to Paris, i dont fancy going down the motorways.

McD - recommend you take some cheapo masking tape in the Tuscan with you; you can say this is for your headlamps if you get stopped as the headlamp adjusters available do not fit in my experience.

I hate to say this, but your going the wrong way!

I've just come back from a weekend in Paris, and went via Newhaven to Dieppe.

Following the Sat Nav and avoiding Toll Roads I ended up on the D133.

Based on the fact I have driven 40k miles per annum for last 20 years, I can honestly say that is the sweetest bit of road to drive on, I have ever experienced.

I haven't got my map with me to confirm this, but I believe the joy begins on the D1 and continues for miles and miles from there, onto the D133. It must be 20 - 30 miles of fast sweeping open bends, no traffic, no police. I did it in both directions at different times of the day, and I loved it.

If you can manage a detour, or for your next trip try it. You will be amazed.
