Engine doesn't start after bumby ride.

Last week a friend of mine hitted an obstacle on the road with his Tuscan Mk1 . After that, the engine stopped and car did not start anymore. Till today car still doesn't start. What can this be ?

please advise.

It's common to have an inertial cut-off designed to kill the engine in a crash. Perhaps that's been tripped. Otherwise I guess something's been dislodged and you need somebody to track the fault down.

We already tracked down the switch (in the trunk) but it didn't seem to make it run again.

Could it have disturbed the earth connection ?
Alternatively, I had a bump last year and almost straight away had to change the starter motor as the shock dislodged what was left of the brushes.

i don't think it is earth, since the starter motor is still turning, it doesn't jump on.

So, the engine is turning over but not firing.
is fuel getting through ? or no ignition.
I suppose it could be a connection disturbed. What about the engine management.

Hope this doesn't sound to silly, but have you checked the fuse, i reckon it could be number 35 - 10amp relay ignition supply, had a similar problem but mine happened after i had stalled.

Sorry guys or it could be number 17 igition coils - 15amp

Was the obstacle a stationery articulated lorry? Mate hit one in his Griff - it wouldn't start afterwards either.

Since it doesn't seem to be anything obvious, I think you have two choices: You can guess(and keep guessing until the problem is found), or you can diagnose the fault methodically. If you don't know enough to diagnose it yourself then get a competent professional to do it.

That was retro upgraded to 20amp on all cars in late 2000 as they liked to blow.

From your profile it looks like your have a Tuscan racer as opposed to the later speed 6 car, What engine does it have in it?

I'd start by checking to see if the fuel pump primes, you should be able to hear it, if it doesn't you know it going to be a fuel problem, check the fuses and relays and see if one has come lose of blown.

If the pump primes ok then it must be a ignition problem, depending on which engine you are running will change things slightly there, AJP you will need to check the voltage supply to the coil packs, also might be a problem with the crank sensor, on the rover V8 you should test the supply to the coil and ignition module on the distributor.

I don't want to sound like a poser, but the Challenge car is my trackday-toy, the problem with the bumpy ride occured with my "street" Tuscan Speed 6.

Same process applies though, check to see if it's petrol or ignition causing the fault and go from there.
