Hello everybody
I have been around these forums for about 6 months now, and reading lots of posts. So I thought it was about time I registered and posted myself.
I was just wondering, what is the average age of a Tuscan owner?
The reason I ask, I am 21 and come Febuary will hopefully be the proud owner of a mk1 Tuscan.
I currently driver a Nissan 200sx S14a and previously owned a mk2 MR2 Rev5 so I have a decent amount of experience for my age. Besides that they only go as fast as your right foot wishes anyway.
I currently live with the parents, and have been working for some time in a stable job so I have momey coming in and very little outgoings, which is partly why I want to do this now and not later on in life, as I know full well I could not afford this with a house etc.
In my current situation bills for extra 'needs' that these cars have should not be an issue.
I am looking at around 15k to buy the car. I then have a garage close by who specailise in TVR's Nobles Elises etc who are able to perform services, rebuilds and pretty much everything so I will be getting the car thoroughly checked out there before hand as I doubt I will be getting a car with a rebuild for my budget. However as mentioned, and little niggles is not a major problem - helped by the fact I work 2 minutes away from home and can walk so do not need a car.
Before it's mentioned by someone else, I have insurances quotes, although initailly quite high I have managed to get it down to £1,900 which I think is pretty good considering.
So, good or bad idea at this age? I am guessing there isnt many younger people around (although I really do feel old
) but if there are any information/advise would be great.
Certain things have happened in life recently which makes me go down the route of thinking 'you only live once' etc. So I am pretty set on buying in the new year

Welcome to the mad world of TVR's.
Good luck with your search for a Tuscan,I have had Tvr's for many years and all i can say is expect the unexpected,and have a good amount of cash behind you for repairs.
I recently bought a Tuscan 120 miles into my ownership lost a shim from the top of a valve and its at Tvr power for a re-build
Once Tvr's get under your skin your in for the best fun ever but cheep it ain't.

Remember sometimes if a car seems a really good deal there is usually a good reason - you could end up with someone elses problems ! But all is not lost the wonderful world of pistonheads is here to help ( as it did help me purchase my Tuscan !).

yes you only live once, but assuming you plan on living a good few more years, buy a house first, give it two years and then get the tuscan. Unless there is a global economic crisis or you lose your job, you will be in a much stronger financial position.
Property is one of the best investments you can makes, cars and specifically TVR's are the worst

I have no regrets and am into my third TVR with my Tuscan.
Its funny but a lot of people think I am either stupid or just mad to be driving a TVR.
"But its English, arnt TVR's unreliable" etc etc.
Then again I am based in Germany and when I look out across the car park and see the sea of Black, navy blue, grey and silver VW's, Audi's and Merc's,
I get a real kick out of spottting my fantastic looking Purple paradise Tuscan in the sea of grey.

i was just 24 when i got mine 18months ago..... just do it, but be prepared for it to cost you 3k per year in servicing, fixing, tyres & polish and that you may have a 6k hole in your bank account if the worst happens.
once you've had a TVR you just wont get the same a kick from golf GTIs and M3s etc.... so its cheaper in the long run
(although, i'm sure a lambo might come close... perhaps TVR ownership is a bad idea....)

Just go in eyes wide open on the car you buy. There are lots around - do NOT accept 2nd best. I would make sure anything you consider has already had everything replaced. Some may never need it but I wouldn't risk it personally. Rebuild, new clutch and bell housing, new LCD pod, window seals - usual list you'll get by searching here.
I had my Griff 500 at around 25 when I moved back home - amazing an never regretted it. Still miss it.
Beware though, a Tuscan is a real world supercar. Mates down the pub and macho stories do NOT cover how fast and dangerous these cars are in the wrong hands. It will simply blow you away when you use the full length of the throttle travel

also makes your mates scream like little girls, brown their trousers 
mate of mine reckoned he had wet himself when I eventually let him out (he couldn't find the open door button...) after a bit of a blat...i bought mine at 29 an have always paid around 500 for insurance. with a plan at the moment, they always beat any qoute ive had from elsewhere. as for buying one, if you just ease yourself into it not flooring it everywhere straight away as it will bite you. also id advise servicing at an independant. you get a better more personal service, and dont get ripped off with dealer prices which are scandalous, only my personal opinion obviously.

No such thing as a TVR dealer these days. They're all indies.Anyway, I bought by Tuscan S at 26 and now 2 years on, the insurance has lowered however the maintenance bills haven't. But that's TVR ownership for you.
Awesome car and I don't regret buying it for a second, even though it's comparativley expensive to run and can be frustrating at times.

Im only just 27 now(not sure if thats classed as young) but got mine on my 25th birthady. Its been the best 2 years of motoring ever, 12 miles 1 tour of Scotland 1 trip to Le mans and not a single problem. (Kiss of death). However at the end of the day they are machines and sh!t happens, they can go wrong now and again, Ive have done a set of tyres £400 2 services and a geo set up so you need to prepare for that, also super go go juice aint cheap 115 per ltr round my end £60+ fill up and it doent last long.... But I set my heart on a Tusc and nothing else would do...
Get 1 bought man and dont look back,

Cheers for the replys guys keep them coming though! Love to hear other opinions.
I think when people see the SX the straight away think 'chav' purely because of the car. Always being stereotyped even though I am a damn sensible driver. Fully aware of the respect you need to drive such cars, and a TVR will be a whole new level but I have no concerns about taming the beast as I have no intentions of pushing the car (or more likely myself) to my limits. I tend to drive like a granny anyway saving petrol!
As for a house, heres one of the main reasons im getting a tvr.........
I was with the same girl from the age of 16 for over 4 years. We split and that hit me pretty hard (this was last December and it has been dragging on ever since). I could have seen me and the ex saving for a house right now.... as it happens thats not the case.
So life has been rather depressing recently, which is when I decided lifes far to short, I'm not wasting it.. and the first thing to do is to buy a TVR
will certainly put a smile back on my face.
At the end of the day... I would much rather be in a committed relationship if going along with a mortgage etc, so I have decided I would be better off waiting slightly. And if that thought changes, I simply sell the TVR and there we go, we have a deposit on a house. So in a way the TVR will also be an investment if needed......... although selling it a couple of years down the line I'm sure will not be the initial intention :P

As for the thread, I got a T2 a few months ago and I've not regretted a second of it. Awesome cars....they may not be described as being the best on paper, but the looks, noise and just the overall 'event' will scrap any doubts you have. Take your time, get a good one.....and enjoy!
