Trickle Charger.........

Hi guys

The winter and the lack of use has taken its toll on the Tuscans battery! It jump starts ok with my leads but i really need to sort a trickle charger for it! Was just wondering how I access the battery? Is it jack up and wheel off or is it under the bonnet?

Hi Stu, sorry don't know the answer to that but I bought a solar powered charger that was weak but quite useful, just leave it on the dash and plug it into the cigar lighter. Dave

To access the battery it is a wheel off job,unless you have the jump leads with the connector that fits the socket under the car just back from the passenger side wheel.
Well worth getting one, saves a lot of messing about.

if you jack the car up slightly, wheel doesnt need to be off the floor, turn the steering to the right, if you take off the battery cover (2bolts) you can get jump leads on there fairly easily. motorworld sell the solar powered trickle chargers. i bought a black and decker portable booster from argos which charges the battery through the ciarette lighter.

You could just buy an accumate trickle charger with the cigarette lighter lead then there is no need to faff. It is the easiest route.

The previous owner of my tuscan has a plug coming out of the pass side foot area - I'm assuming that this is for a trickle charger.

Could it also be used to jump start? Can I use the ciggie lighter for this or am I taking about removing the wheel?

Can anyone recommend a standalone jump starter - my garage has no power!

I just got back from a week's trip and found my Tuscan's battery flat....
But, I had left the trickle charger on the whole time, through the ciggie lighter!

So the bad news is that both the TCS guy and TVR Power told me trickle chargers are fine when hooked up directly to the battery, but can defect the battery panels or something when charged thru the ciggie lighter. Mind you, the battery is 4yrs old now - not bad for a Tuscan. (Bosch)

Took the car for a run and all fine now.

Will have the footwell charge point done in next service.

I got myself a trickle charger and an Anderson connector. I have hacked the ends off the trickle charger and soldered them directly to the Anderson connector and plugged it in in the garage! Job done. Just got to not forget its plugged in now! Think Im going to modify my disc lock reminder somehow so I dont drive off trailing it all behind me! Haha!

Well I tried the trickle charger to no avail, the battery was knackered!

New battery fitted on Saturday morning, which was a right pain in the arse! Hardest bit seems to be getting a jack under the bloody thing! Anyway new battery did the trick and Ill be leaving the trickle charger plugged in 24/7 from now on!

Might help to drive onto a bit of wood to get some extra clearance for the jack.
