Dipstick and filler cap
Discussion
Hi all
Checked oil level yesterday and noticed the dipstick was starting to fall away from the top of the filler cap. Decided to avoid investigating further for the risk of snapping off completely before the 2 mile drive home.
Got back and was late for something so didnt get a chance to look at in more detail.
Has this happened to anyone else? Does it simply need replacing for a new one or will I find something obvious which can be repaired?
Is the dipstick at risk of falling into the engine! And if so what damage could this possibly do?
Also managed to snap the service bonnet support, is this an easy DIY fix? Great day!!

Mine has already snapped off - the screw cap is separate from the dispstick. Checked oil level yesterday and noticed the dipstick was starting to fall away from the top of the filler cap. Decided to avoid investigating further for the risk of snapping off completely before the 2 mile drive home.

It appeared as though the two parts were held together with some form of epoxy - whether this indicates that the previous owner has already attempted to fix it or that it was the way they were designed, I dont know.
I cleaned it all up, so there is no risk of anything dissapearing down into the engine on mine, but I am going to get it replaced at some point.
The leven route seems like a good one.

Also happened to me - Offords replaced it the last time it was in for a few quid - should be easy to DIYBob
It won't do any damage if it breaks off the cap and falls down as it is only falling in to the oil tank and not the engine and should easily be recovered, also there is a filter on the out put pipe as it comes out of the tank and would prevent any small particles from entering the engine.
