Im looking to buy a 2000 (w) reg tuscan but dont know too much about them can any one give me advice on what to look out for!!!!
i have a dax rush at the moment and the guy wants to do a swap for it. will i have as much fun with the tuscan
the tuscan needs a service and he has said it will cost £600.00 is this true???
and are they expensive to run

Your best doing a search on here for "buying a Tuscan".
There are a few things to look out for but the main one is "when was the engine last rebuilt ?"
I have a 2000 (W) Tuscan with the engine rebuilt at 35K and 70K.
You will see figures on here of the engines lasting anything from 10k to 40k miles. Later Tuscans had many of the engine problems corrected and subsequent engine rebuilds for all provide better quality materials and so better engines.
I am sure the average mileage will climb over the coming years but never the less, this is the most important question you can ask.
Upgraded shocks etc provide for a more stable ride but I guess the guy will let you know what he has done and when.

Are you talking about a straight swap? Unless your Rush is very special, or there is something seriously wrong with the Tuscan, it's a very good deal for you!
The questions you need to be getting answered by the seller (or rather checking for yourself) are:
- when, by who (and even how many times) has it had it's engine rebuilt?
- which service is it? If tappet check / adjustment is required, it will cost you more than £600.

- what condition cosmetically - front end respray, new wheels etc all add up.
- what other upgrades does it have? If on original shocks, are they leaking?
- As it is an early Tuscan, does it have 16" or 18" spiders, does it have air con?
Are they expensive to run? Compared to your Dax, I expect much more so. Compared to factory-built cars of similar performance to the Tuscan, they are similar/cheaper to run.

he did say that the engine was rebuit and he has the paperwork to back this up along with other paperwork aswell
are the tvr's high on running cost's or are they about the same as a normal car , services every 6k? and is that about right £600.00 for a service!!

Ive never seen a price that low for a S6 12k service in our part of the world.
I would imagine you have to bank on several hundred ££'s for a 12k, tappet adjustment would be sxtra.
Many places advertise quite cheap prices for servicing, but from esperience you usually end up spending more due to problems found at service.

Hi NCS, yes, I know what you mean about extras on the service price but Ian just isnt like that. Great guy and people travel fair distances for his attention.
At my last service there was a guy travelled down from Newcastle for his service. Thats about 200 miles.
Anyway, long live TVR's, long live Tuscans.
By the way, just looked at my Tuscan compared to your Griffith and the side profile is very similar. Never realised that before.

Hi Sam, for running costs, I have been driving TVR's for my every day car since about 1998. This has been intermixed with various other cars including Mazda, Mitsubishi, Rover, Vauxhall and Honda.
Excluding my Tuscan, the most expensive was the Rover with many problems while working in Switzerland.
The least expensive was my TVR Chimaera which was very reliable for three years driving in Germany. My Tasmin was also very reliable and also saw Switzerland and Germany but I spend money maitaining the Chassis and changing bushes, shocks etc.
For the Tuscan, I have spent a lot of money this year on the engine, new shocks, electrics, geometry setup, new alloys, etc etc and so dont want to kill you with a running cost that is so high.
In reality, many of the jobs could have waited but I wanted to get here right after buying her in October 2006.
I have driven to Germany and back 3 times now and also had a 3 week tour of South England, Northern France and Belgium.
No problems at all and looking forward to driving back to Germany in the new year.
If your after a TVR and the one on offer is good then good luck.
