Help: Seals where the roof slots in?

Purchased a new roof.
But having problems getting the new roof to fit on one side (this is where it slots into and above the front windscreen)
The new roof looks to have a thicker edge than the old one (the edge being where this slots into the seals above the front windscreen)
Thought about widening the material once you have pulled away the rubber seals but not sure if the seal is carbon fibre or metal, does anyone know?
