Tuscan exaust cans silencers. A bit of research.
Discussion
OK Guys,
Firstly, sorry about the spelling typo's in the title
What do you want from your tuscan exhaust cans. I know what I want, but I would be interested to know what you are looking for.
1. Straight through and ear splitting
2. Quieter but still with the pops and bangs
3. Fully silenced (well as far as you can get it)
4. Adaptable so that DB killers could be fitted for track days
5. Dismantlable so that they can be repacked, easily sleeved, etc
6. higher pitch tones, lower pitch tones, Barks, Growls, Rasps......what?
What would you want out of the "Ultimate" Tuscan exhaust can?
Dave

no.5. Probably the best option of the lot as you could achieve your other options quite easily. I can imagine 2 sets of pipes sitting in the garage, one sleeved/hollow for everyday aural pleasure with pops bangs and the S6 bark. The other set standard/sport cans track compliant and for long distance trips.Firstly, sorry about the spelling typo's in the title

I'd have thought the same would be true of the Cats' as well?
personally, my tusc is currently decatted and on CCCs and it's way too loud. For me it's rather been spoiled as it's now a pain on a longer journey and tunnels are now a windows up affair - heresy! Previously, when it was just I catted on CCCs and it sounded amazing. Like a D-type Jag up to 5k and then something much more modern after that. I can't imagine it sounding much better than that but I guess if it did I'd be on the side of the musical, higher pitched, higher revving sort of sound. A lot of people want the gruff noise low down at start up, personally I think they should get a V8 as that's something they do well. A good straight six can and should sound much better with higher revs compared to a V8, so this is what I'd like to accentuate.
I'm thinking of putting cats back in just to reduce the ear splitting noise but maybe freer flowing ones and having it remapped accordingly. Otherwise as it stands, it sounds better with the standard cans back on (which are perforated, the CCCs are just a straight tube of steel).
Are you thinking of having some made up? The ideal style for me would be big bore, polished stainless steel or titanium and slash cut.

I echo your thoughts regarding the decat and the CCC's, thats why I made some cans of my own. They sound 100% better than the CCC's but still require a little tweeking. I'm in the process of developing three different sets of internals but wondered what the majority of people are looking for. I'm looking into the slash cut / oval design, but first I want to get the noise right. Hi there.
I agree with NTEL about catted CCC's. I have catted CCC's on mine. They have that wonderful straight six sound then go on for that ferrel rasp high up on the revs. I dont find them too loud when on the motorway either. Think after reading NTEL's I will definately leave the cats in. Dont think I will go back to standard ones tho.

Pardon?
I love my decat and CCC's. I can put the standard cans back on to make it quieter.
The PITS has an S which has a larger bore exhaust, so maybe the reason it's too loud. I know an S with CCC's and cats was deeper and louder than my RR with the same.
I would want a deeper louder note if that was possible but keeping the standard can look. I'm not a fan of different look rear exhausts on a Tuscan.

currently sleeved cans and decatted 97db @ 3000rpm
the volume is fine, but very raspy (although people say it sounds good)
ultimate is about the same volume, but deeper growly at low revs (like a sag). the bahnshee scream on revs (got), bark with pops and bangs on the over run.
oh and a standard look
NTEL not sure about the end caps on your DIY cans
any one got some CCC that i can try?

Yeah, I know what you mean but a lot of people like them. The blue ones you are refering to are purely experimental. At the moment I'm playing with different internals to achieve different noises. At the moment the blue ones are still fairly loud but with a much lower tone at lower revs and a higher pitched sporty tone at high revs. The pops and bangs are still mental though.NTEL not sure about the end caps on your DIY cans

Once the sounds are right I'll then start looking at different syles.
Thanks to everybody so far for your input. Please keep it coming.
it seems no-one's too keen on the raspy thing. Afterall, who wants to sound like an M3?! They sound so tinny from outside. I'm told they sound a lot better inside. I only mention 'it' as 'it's' another straight sixxed car for comparison. pure filth either way in my opinion.
the S6 engine noise is what's good; raspy metallic clanking of exaust pipes not so good. It sounds like somethings come loose. In terms of the deep tone, the S6 will never replicate the RV8 on start up so I think it's best to work on and enhance what the RV8 can never replicate - the high revving scream/roar thing. Few engines do it better.

thought i would put my 10p worth in
the ccc are to raspy
I have been looking for something
with more bass i quite like how the power exhaust for the t350 sounds.
at the moment i have no silencers in the centre pipe and blue flame cans
into which i can fit sleeves for when i feel like being noisy
126 db at the bng but again this sounds to raspy

I am decatted and cccs. I find it great , yee its a bit loud but not too loud in my opinion. i got 128db at bng, hammering the thing.
I suppose if I want to quite things down at bit, I could put the standard cans back on.
I would be very intrested in a can that looked and sounded like the cccs, but with an insertable db killer (easy fit), as this would give best of both worlds but without hassle of swapping cans.
Cheers

I've got an "S" that's been decatted and has CCC's. I put the standard cans back on as it was just too loud, especially on longer journeys.
With the standard cans on it's very bassy, especially at tickover. I do miss the high pitch wail at higher revs but was never a fan of the rasp.
I think the best bet would be to go for an active silencer system, then you could have the best of both worlds. Some sort of pressure actuated system inside the exhaust cans would be the best bet. You could base it around a sliding perforated sleeve within another fixed perforated sleeve. This then allows you to vary the size of perforations, and hence the amount of exposed silencing material within the exhaust can. The sliding action would be driven by exhaust back pressure so when at low revs/throttle openings the perforations would be fully open to the silencing material so giving maximum silencing. As exhaust back pressure increases with revs/throttle, the perforated sleeve would slide within the other fixed sleeve so closing up the perforations and reducing the silencing accordingly.
By the way, I've got a patent pending on that brilliantly simple idea!

I have Ntel's decat's and CCC's on my S, it is very noisy and have been told it's actually painful to be behind in the tunnels, but to put the standard cans on only takes 2 minutes each side so I chuck them on if doing a long journey.
I do think the sound of the S with cats and CCC's was fantastic, but mine were melted when I replaced the clutch.
Having the rear cans make a decat sound like a catted with CCC's would be my optimum as then can replace quickly with the CCC's for some silly tunnel fun.
