Water leaking at driver's side door...

Hi folks,

This has probably been covered somewhere before but the search facility is still down... is it ever going to be fixed!?

There's a leak at the top left of the driver's side door - the water is coming in where the furthermost cutout section is. In heavy rain it does get pretty bad and I really don't want the water ruining the trim.



Is there anything I can do to improve the seal here? Looking at the rubber it all seems to be fixed down properly but I'm thinking it's not sitting tight enough when the door is closed.

get your door skins covered in leather, so that a little dribble of water doesn't matter

I have water coming in at the drivers side window, nearest to the windscreen. Makes washing the car difficult as you can't wash the soap off with a hose or watering can in fear of drowning the interior.

The passenger side isn't doing it and I can't see anything different in both seals. Strange.

Hello Justin, Just noticed that you say you have a leak!
I know how disappointed you must feel,Its rotten when you get something you LOVE, and then start finding little faults, Im sure you will be able to sort it out.
My drivers window wont close right to the top,its only a tiny gap, but i know its there, so its bugging me! I know they will fix it as i took out the years insurance on thing going wrong, but i dont want to let them come and collect it yet.

as you just bought it from the TVR Centre, pop back and they will sort it for you. They are top blokes.

All Tuscans do that, but they can be made almost leak free.

It's not all that bad - having had TVRs before I know that these things happen every so often so I'm not too depressed! Usually they're only small things and can be easily fixed which is good.

Yeah, I already spoke to Martin about it when I went to pick up the toolkit from them and they said I'm more than welcome to bring it for a fix - it's just that I like trying to fix these things myself!

I'm thinking about getting a strip of weatherproof insulating tape, you know they type that you can get to fix gaps in old house windows? Bonding that against the existing seal might make it a tighter fit.

Just had this problem sorted by Paul and Heath (X Works). Easy enough to do apparently. A little of was taken of the edge where the seals is on the door frame and it worked a treat. No worries when I wash it now.

Hi mate mine has done it from new i have had martin at the TVR centre to look at it a few times and with out any luck, let me know how you get on............. Gordon

If you can take it to X Works or find out what they did. Heath is a very helpful guy, I'm sure he be willing to discuss it.

hey, both my doors do this and i took it too track vs road, they suggested that its the inner skin inside the door that needs re sealing, take the leather in part of the door off and re seal at the top. This might work.

I went to Halfrauds today to try and get some of that stick on insulating strip but they didn't have any. They also didn't have any throttle cables which I wanted to buy as a backup if mine ever breaks. Rubbish!

Anyway, ironically I drove there and back in the pouring rain and my door didn't leak. Sods law!

I did a similar post a while back and someone (can't remember who but thanks to them anyway) suggested using strip of P profile draft excluder from a DIY store. I followed their advice but instead of the whole strip I cut it in half length ways to make a single bead which I ran over the top of the existing seal. My car lives outside and has had a few leaks in the past but since adding the extra line it has been totally tight. My only gripe is that I can't find the excluder in black, only brown which looks a little odd to the trained eye.
