graunching gears

I found that changing from flat out in 4th gear up to 5th I get a slight graunching. It's not massive but just wondering if you lot thought it was normal or a sign of something that might need attention? I have a standard gearbox. Is this something that's cured with the CR box, which I'm told is a more robust unit?

Can't help, I've never been flat out in 4th, and if I was the last thing I'd be thinking about would be changing gear, 'cos I'd be flying

The only time I've had issues changing gears has been when my clutch has been on the way out.

The synchro on 5th gear can be a weak point, and may be failing. Might be worth giving these guys a shout: www.gearboxman.com, they rebuilt my box.

my car hasn't even done 3000 miles yet! And I was running it in for over 1000 too!

I never had this on the Sagaris but that had the stronger CR box. I was hoping that's all it was.

Pits, I had that problem on a newish Tamora from 2k miles upwards, it would graunch when shifting from 4th to 5th at anything above 3k revs, finally had it repaired at 27k miles, the 5th gear synchro had failed, its a common problem on the T5, early boxes were made in Brazil, not too expensive to repair, mine was rebuilt by Tvr Power under warranty, and was fine afterwards.

the car's still up at TVR power so Dom's going to check it on the rollers this afternoon. I'll report what happens.

Are Power servicing it? Do they put it on the rollers as part of that? I reckon it might be your clutch set up slightly out, so an easy fix for Power.

no, I had it in for the sports cats and chip fitted and dyno tested. Dom's chuffed with the figures, particularly torque. He found a lot more everywhere than it produced with decats, although to be fair the map wasn't optimised at that point. Can't wait to try it!
