Brake Caliper Woes
Discussion
Hello All
Have recently had my car (2003 Tusc S) back from a service, and amonst a snagging list was that the nipples in the front two brake calipers have been glued in, so therefore they could not change the brake fluid(assuming that the nipples have been sheared off at some point),can i just buy two new nipples? what is the best option to sort this problem out ? and can it be sorted or do i have to bite the bullit and buy two brand new calipers ?
Help Please !

I'd be asking some questions of whoever does the servicing on your car - did they not offer to sort this out for you? (not suggesting they did the evil deed in the first place!).
Anyway, any good engineering shop should be able to drill out the old nipples and rethread the hole to take a larger nipple. Give the price of AP Calipers, I'd have thought that this was a cheaper option.
Before you try that though, get a blow torch and a reverse threaded set of tappers. I would have thought that the glue would melt under heat and then the reverse threaded tapper would remove the old nipple easily (you might have to hacksaw off the head of the nipple to give the tapper a hole to thread into).
Of course, if someone's glued them in then the original threads are most likely shagged anyway!!
Hope this helps.
