Wipers Slipping

Hi all

I’ve been having trouble with the windscreen wipers working loose and not keeping a good grip on the spindle thingy’s.

I’ve got a new mechanism in place and 2 new wiper arms to fit, but is there any tip before tightening up the Allen key bolts? Maybe a dab of some form of glue on the spindles for example?

Keith, is the allan key bolt working loose from the wiperarm where it connects to the half round spline? If that's the case it's strange it would do that after being tightened. Some Loctite Threadlocker 246 High Temperature/Medium Strength should do the job. I have only just replaced the blades and arms on my Tusc with no probs & no Loctite, don't know why your's would be different.

Yeah looked as though the allen key had worked loose. I've just bought 2 new wiper arms as I thought having a complete new spline on both the arm and the mechanism would help.

To my surprise however, the arms themselves dont have a pre-grooved spline - was this the same for you?

So i simply place new arms on the mechanism and tighten as much as possible?

You know, I didn't look to see if the wiper arms had splines. I wouldn’t go nuts with the tightening of the bolt as the spline nipple may be aluminium. Use the Loctite though for added security....(must go and check if the wiper arms had splines)

Just had a thought. When you place the arm on the windscreen in the correct position and tighten are you ensuring that the arm is pressed hard on to the screen. Because it is spring loaded, what I did was position the arm then raised it like you were cleaning the screen and then tightened the wiper arm. That means you tighten with no pressure from the springs.

Does that make sense?
