I took the trouble to read through the handbook today. It suggests 95 for normal road use and 98/99 for track days. Why would this affect the car's performance? If it is set up for 99 then use it, set up for 95 then you are wasting your money with 99 with no turbo in sight, somebody please correct me.
It seems to have been reported before that people have had pinking with the lower octaine fuel, I suppose you would be ok with the lower fuel as you suggest, but I personally use the higher rating even though it says to use normal fuel on my filler cap (or near it)
By the way Stuart, I have cleaned your wheel nuts up ready for you.

Just to help clear this one up, we stress to all owners with Speed Six engined cars that a diet of high-octane fuel is esential. Shell V Power, BP Ultimate, Tesco 99 Octane or any such equivalent. The rear two cylinders on the engine are virtually in the car with you and tend to run hotter than the others. Because the engine is not equipped with 'knock sensors' this leaves them more prone to 'pinking' (Detonation) and prolonged pinking (Which you can't always hear) will not be good for your engine!
In our experience the cars do run better using higher octane fuel and can do slightly more mpg. Also due to the ridiculous price of fuel now there only seems to be 2-3 pence per litre premium on the higher octane stuff, so it's not too much extra per fill-up these days!
I hope that this helps, Tony Abrams
