Mk 1 Rear Heater...any improvements?

Tonnes od minor fix questions at the moment.
I have taken my centre console off at the moment to fix the gear gator properly (the material is too small so looks like I'm going to have to cut it - scary)
Noticed my rear heater (which never worked) is just fed by a crappy pipe which wasn't connected.
I've fixed the connector by the gear leaver but am looking of a way of improving the actual connection with the rear vent.
At the moment the feed pipe just sort of points roughly in its general direction - a reckon at least 50% of the air just ends up staying under the consol?
Anyone done this or got any idea for quick fixes?
Was thinking of maybe a rubber pipe angle (would need to be about 45 degree)......
I have also discovered that when neatening these cars up Impact adhesive is truly your friend!

just get a longer bit of hose for the pipe.
You dont need to cut the gaitors, the carpeted centre section that the gear lever gaitor and handbrake gaitors and chrome surrounds attach to simply lifts off, but you first must take off the gear knob and handbrake handle. You can then remove the gaitors that are glued to the underside.

just re-read your post, I know what you mean about the pipe fitting in and not actually connecting to the rear outlet vent, I guess you could make it a better fit, personally it does not other me much, if the rear screen ever mists up, I just drop a window, or stick on the air con or stop breathing.

No air con in mine (not too worried about it though - never use it apart from demisting)I'm not going to die in a ditch about getting this perfect but thought whilst I'm at it would improve it.

My problem is the circle that is glued to the underside does not seem big enough to be held in place without coming away and showing unsightly non-leather/plastic bits.
I was going to cut into the circle to give it some more diameter to be able to be glued better - bit worried about the cut going too long though.

ah I had mine all in bits yesterday to adjust the reverse light switch, if you post had been 8 hours earlier I would have taken photos!
The gear knob simply unscrews, but it has the bit underneath that it used to adjust and tighten the knob in place, this bit unscrews the opposite direction but will not move if it's been screwed all the way down. Try a bit of brute force unscrewing the knob, you could try marigolds if you need more grip, don't be tempted to use any metal tools as if you scratch the knob you will have trouble finding a factory replacement. The knobs can be a tight/loose fit, depending on who last replaced it. No-one that knows anything about TVR's would use any loctite etc on it as it's a part that regularly needs to come apart on a TVR.
If that fails, I would take it to your nearest friendly TVR dealer, who will do it and also sell you new gaitors.
That is the only way to do it properly, attempting it the way you are describing really is a bodge job! (no offence!!)

Will try more brute force to remove gear knob - didnt seem like it was going to go!!
If I can get the gator to fit correctly and securely then it will be at least as well done at the original TVR triming!!

I'd forgotton I could get to the reverse sensor from there - I have a feeling that my reverse light may flicker on occasionally....never driven behind me though.
