Thermostat, why me, why TVR....

pulled onto the drive last night water temp hits 100, water/steam pour out from under bottet , Oh..... cr@p
Little investigation later, fans running flat out air coming from them is cool. hoses to radiator luke warm, hose to heater red hot , water temp hits 100 rapidly again. got to be the thermostat.
Takes out thermostat and put in pan boiling water it does not open. So Take it down to halfwits and to their disgust after opening every box on the shelf find it's equivalent, I am back o the road for £5.99, no harm done, could have been much much worse.
Why why....
Never had a thermostat fail, why me, why my TVR. it's not a TVR part, does something magical happen to components when they are put on TVR's which kills their life expectancy?
