Just tightening my alternator belt (first time bonnet been off by me!)

I was going to straighten the bracket that clips the front bonnet to the side of the car (been popping out all the time).

Bolt was very rusty and has sheared off. So now there is just one (rusty) bolt holding the side of my front bonnet on.

I'm going to attempt to get the bolt out but if it wrecks the thread on the bonnet how do I replace it?

Looks like something was actually sunk ito the fibreglass.

Don't fancy a major fibreglass repair!!

For the sake of a couple of pence why oh why do they not use satinless parts??!!

yeh, they're called captive nuts i think, they're bonded in during manufacture. they can be replaced and re-bonded using a 2 part glue. probably best left to a dealer with tvr experience though. :-)

Problem resolved but not easily - your right about the sunken bolts - attempted to drill out the rusty screw and broke two drill bits! Fortunately the sunken bolts are pretty big and there is lots of play on the clips so was able to put another threaded hole in.

Off to get stainless screws tomorrow.....still angry that they use crappy bolts!
