Which spoiler?

I have recently bought a 55 plate Tuscan 2S Targa. It has a large rear spoiler. I was told by the garage that the small (and I think more stylish one) is only on the convertable. I have today though, seen on the web 2 diofferent targa's that have the smaller spoiler.

Does anyone know what is supposed to go on which? Was the smaller one only for Convertables? could one be fitted on my Tuscan 2S targa?

Why not see if you could swap big for small with someone.
TVRs were made to order, so I doubt that each of the spoilers would belong on certain cars, you would order what you preferred.

No, the smaller one wasn't just for the 'Vert, it could be specified by customers on all Mk2 Targa S models and is what I've got on mine. Apparently the large spoiler holds up to 2 litres of water if the car's left standing in the rain - my dealer, Ciceley, actually measured it one day!! Allegedly, Tuscans fitted with the small spoiler are faster due to less drag!

I can't see that the two are interchangeable, though, they're an integral part of the boot lid moulding. You'd probably have to get a whole new lid.

Where did you hear that from? Its more likely to "clean up" the airflow off the back of the roof? Perhaps.

I'm sure I read it on PH, so it could of course be complete drivel! Not that I'm sure it's noticeable on the road anyway.

You're right, no one could possibly give a drag or reduction in drag figure on a car unless they've paid £5k+ to take their car into MIRA windtunnel etc.

The larger rear spoiler was developed in the wind tunnel to give a reasonable amount of down force, the smaller spoiler was a no cost option on the Targa model as the larger spoiler is not to every ones taste although has a lot less effect. Convertibles were not fitted with the larger rear spoiler due to wind noise.

The two litres of water the spoiler holds comes in useful when you are washing the car

Thanks for the infrmative replies guys. Has anyone ever had a new boot? I guess it would have to be a blank and a complete fit, paint job etc. Are such blanks available anywhere?

You could try Surface & Design in Blackpool, the ex-factory bodywork specialists. They might even be able to chop off your existing spoiler and graft on a new one and then repaint the whole boot lid.

Like I say, why not advertise a swop, stating which color boot and which boot/spoiler you would like to swap, you would not need any work other than undoing and tightening of some bolts.

Good idea but bear in mind that a replacement boot may not have quite the same fit as the one being taken off....
