Spoke too soon! Wipers broken...

Hey people!

After everything was working so perfectly the other day, I think I may have tempted fate! Driving in the rain last night and my wipers packed up.

The driver's side wiper seems to be attached to a bar which has disconnected from the passenger side one. The bar is located underneath the top of the bonnet. I haven't taken the bonnet off to see what's going on yet - I might try and check it out this evening. Anyone have any ideas as to what could have gone wrong with it?

if you take the bonnet off, then remove the scuttle panel (easy, two screws either end, then remove wipers and nuts, and lifts off, the rubber may stick a little to the windscreen and you will need to guide out the wiper jet hoses) you will see the wiper mechanism under there. Here is a photo. I've never had this fault, but I guess it could be a simple fix if something has come loose.

Cheers for that - makes it much easier to see what's going on. I imagine mine has come apart here:



I just have a feeling that the bolts holding it together have been lost. What a hassle! Might just take it up to TVR Centre on Saturday. Just hope it doesn't rain between now and then!

Hi, I had the same problem and found that if you remove the bonnet, the passenger side had come out of the shaft that push and pulls the wiper arm, I simply cleaned it with thinners, applied a little araldite and pushed the two together and have had no trouble since.

Same me,the bullet that goes in the shaft comes out,needs to be pushed in with glue(i used superglue),it stayed after that

Hey guys,

I just took the bonnet off (it's not much fun doing it by yourself, is it?!) and found the exact problem that Kev described.

I didn't have a spanner to get the windscreen wiper bolts off so had to take the airbox cover off instead. Also didn't have any adhesive to stick the plunger in with, so it'll probably fall apart again!

I should have taken some pictures of the whole process including removing the airbox but my camera isn't working. Anyone got some pics of this so I can add it to the mytuscan site?

ETA - Just found a tube of superglue in the cupboard! Bugger! No way I'm taking all that apart again...

Whitey where did you get them engine covers and how much MMMmmmm....

Red rocker cover was a high performance factory upgrade guaranteed to add 40bhp during my last factory rebuild. In reality probably one of the chaps at the factory with a £5 can of red spray paint in one hand and a bottle of free cheap russian vodka in the other.

Dunno if he is still selling them, I have seen a few part websites like www.clever-trevor.net selling them.

The velcro upgrade on the right side of the engine bay on top of the heater box is no longer there. I put it there to solve a mystery rattle, but of course it was, once again, a broken engine mount. TVR power I think are now selling upgraded mounts for Sp6 engine cars so will give them a crack. (no pun intended)

What do you use to clean all the bits inside the engine bay? Mine didn't look too good and everything was really greasy.. I can imagine everything getting quite bunged up. Can't be good for it!

An old rag. A damp one if I'm feeling energetic. It never used to be that clean but since it's last factory rebuild in May 06 I've had the bonnet off a good few times to do a few things and a quick wipe is all it takes. Not to mention I've only done 3500 almost dry miles since May 06 so it's not had a chance to get dirty.

A flip bonnet conversion is the way forward when someone finally starts offering it at a decent price.
