Alarm Sequence
Discussion
I’ve read the manual about the alarm, but I’m still a bit confused especially when I set the alarm when the roof is off.
If I press the fob and hold for a second or two, the lights flash, and the alarm sets. But sometimes the alarm bleeps when I do this, and sometimes it doesn’t.
Am I doing something wrong?

The same thing happens with mine. I'm a new owner so read the manual, unfortunately it wasn't much help. As with a number of things to do with the Tiv it seems to have a mind of it's own - it bleeps or not for no apparent reason.
I simply check to see if the doors are locked and if the windows are up and leave it at that.
The bleeps are very anoying - makes me feel like a 17 year old with a hotted up Saxo
, if anyone can tell me how to stop these I'd be grateful

If you alarm the car within ( I think) 30 seconds of turning off you will get a series of confidence beeps, the alarm and immobiliser will be active. If you alarm after this time the immobiliser will have activated automatically and you are just setting the alarm......HTH

So what about when you hold down the button on the remote and get 4 pips... What does that do?
I think the answer is here:s6boy said:

the alarm will beep while the interior light is on. When it goes out it will not. It bleeps to say a circuit is open, ie door, boot etc.
Whether or not you get the beeps depends on when you press the button,Hope this helps,
Andy

As discussed, set the alarm normally and you'll get 2 flashes of the hazard lights (and 2 beeps if the immobiliser hasn't already kicked in).
However, hold the button down on the remote for say 3 seconds, and you'll get 4 flashes of the hazard lights (with 4 beeps if the immobiliser hasn't kicked in.)
Sorry mate, I must have misunderstood somewhere along the way. Mine beeps 4 times every time (unless I lock the car over 30secs after closing all the circuits). I do recall something in the user manual about holding the button for longer than normal to disable the microwave sensing feature. Not sure if that should produce additional beeps though, perhaps just an additional flash of the indicators.
I'm talking from a MKI point of view, 2001 with standard META system of that time,

EC1,
Mine is the exactly the same, its a 2000 w Reg.
I'll find sometimes ill acitvate the alarm and get no beep but two flashes, then sometimes i'll get 4 flashes and 4 beeps its always one or the other!,
Sometimes I find myself activating and de activating just to get it to beep at me to give a piece of mind that its armed!
