Hi Guys,
Couple of things, the 'c' clip on my gearbox has failed and as a result I can't select 5th gear. Looking at mytuscan.com this seems like a fairly common problem.
What I'd like to know is:
a)What is the likelyhood that this is an easy fix ie, replace gear and c clip (by easy I mean easy on my wallet, car is booked in to garage) - and if so how
b)If worse comes to worse how much is a new (re-con) gearbox likely to cost me
Thanks in advance
Kev

Your looking at around £1200.00 for your box to be re cogged ( go for a close ratio it will cost you no more ) then you might as well get a new raceproved clutch £600.00 then labour for out and in with clutch about £500.00
£2600.00 may get it sorted. that is if you don't use a "TVR specialist" just a good spanner man.

Happened to me when I had my Tuscan. Got a box for £300 from http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/results.asp?spg=70&... They
are just up the road from me and had HL Gorner fit it for another £300 this was about 4 years back but you should
still be able to get it done without it costing an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the response people,

£2600 ouch, I have a warranty which still covers me anyone have any experience as to whether this would be covered or not. Garage seems to think it 'should be' but obviously can't promise until getting the car in and looking at it (seems fair enough??) - Just wondered if anyone else had the same thing and had been covered etc. etc.£2600.00 may get it sorted. that is if you don't use a "TVR specialist" just a good spanner man.

My gearbox was sorted by Competition Transmission Services: www.gearboxman.co.uk/contact.html
Strip, inspection and rebuild labour for this gearbox at £120.00+VAT and the cost of the T5 Master Rebuild kit at £185.00+VAT.
Note that this doesn't include removal and refitting.
Cheers,
FT.

oh right, i thought it was only the s that had the close ratio box. Either way she is booked in for the 21st if not a warranty job will probs be on here pleading for advice but thanks for the heads up guys. As I say garage are confident it will be a warranty job and they have been really good in the past so I am inclined to "trust"em.
thanks again - i think ud be crazy to have a tvr and not know about this site!!?!
