Removing centre console on a T2S

Hi guys, I have a curvy-dash T2S with the near-side window in the permanently down position (but it closes ok when locked then opens straight away when unlocked - it was a cold drive home last night!).

The passenger window-down button feels dead with no click and different from the others so I presume it's a physical failure rather than some electronics gone awol.

So, is there anything I have to watch out for or do you have any hints/tips when it comes to removing the centre console to get to the switches? Also, are the switches of a 'standard' type ie easily obtainable or TVR specials?

Hi Richard,

Not sure how different the curvy dash console is, but on my earlier style T2 there is one screw holding it in at the back. Just pull out the rear vent and it can be clearly seen, then I just lifted it (gently) from the back, followed and released the flexible vent hose, attaches about half way down, then lifted carefully over the handbrake and gearstick which are not physicaly connected to the console. Apologies can't answer your question on the switches, I have four for my windows mounted in the centre dash pod, and they look like a standard push button from the back with an aluminium finish to the front.

I assume you are talking about the trim on the transmission tunnel. It comes of really easily - two screws at the front (on either side of the tunnel - you can see them easily) and one at the back under the aluminium cup thingy.

The only think that is attached to the trim is the wire connector that goes into the back of the switch panel - the connector unfastens easily so you can then lift the panel out of the car.

I've got a theory that problems develop with the window switches when people remove the central trim panel and then just put it to one side with out disconnecting the connector - I think it weakens the connections.

Have also heard that the control units for the windows fail quite regularly.

Window is fixed - the PCB behind the switch panel was just a little loose with sufficient movement to allow a gap between the switch button on the panel and the switch itself on the PCB.

Would have thought the window would just have not gone further down myself, but no.

Still, all sorted now, but something to watch for.
