Boot lid adjustment

Hi boot lid specialists ;-)

I got a question! The gap between the boot lid and the body is slightly different on the both sides (I think a lot of the Tuscans got this problem!). Is it possible to sort out this optical problem with an adjustment of the hinge(s) and the boot lock?
I haven´t seen any possibility at the hinge so I want to ask you ;-)

Hi Andreas,
Yes, seems a common issue.
I think its caused on the Mk1 by the fact there is only 1 gas strut on the right side and it seems to lift the boot on that side.
I had mine adjusted by having a new "later design" hinge fitted but it looked worse than before.
My Mk 2 has got gas struts on both sides and it looks very even.
I was considering having a second strut fitted but unfortunately my Mk 1 Tuscan "died" before I got round to trying a second strut.

The hinge of my MK1 can be adjusted, even the smallest adjustment seems to have a significant effect. If I loosen the bolts there is a fair bit of movement of the hinge if needed.

I think its meant to be like this..

When I bought the car and noticed the difference, the previous owner said that its like this so it can be used as a handle to open the boot - which makes sense.. :-)

Mine is like this to a degree but I won't for a second pretend that it is meant to be this way!
I just need a nice sunny day and the issue will be adjusted so I no longer have a 'handle' to access the boot!

Took my boot lid off and then refitted it after a clean up. You can make it sit much more symmetrically. The strut deffo has something to do with the right side being proud. Adjustment is quite tricky. If you get the hinge position wrong all kinds of weird stuff happens, like the back corners wont go down without pushing them by hand. The angle of the hinge on the main body seems to make them go very strange if you get it wrong. But after an hour of playing around I got a much more satisfying look and it closes nicely with just the right amount of push to latch.

Not perfect, never will be, but way better.

I should add here that my Tuscan is an S model, and with the rear spoiler being where it is, a handle is needed to open it.. Can't remember for sure (and I'm too lazy to go downstairs and check...) but I think that the boot lid is kind of asymmetrical on the right hand side anyway.

They left the factory fitting, well I cannot say perfect but over time they warp because of the strut. You can adjust them to a certain degree but when we have one in for a respray we alter the body to correct it.
