Personally, I dont see any point in having any "number plate system". The plates on a car are there to identify the car. Not to give info on what year it is... Who cares what year the car was registered anyway?? They only reason they have them is so that the police can send the tickets to the right address!

And if DVLA wanted to keep their number plate system sensible, they should only allow each years' plates to go only to that particular year's cars. Currently, you are allowed to put a plate on any car, as long as it's registered after the year of the plate.. So the number plate system is already destroyed my friend..

Nothing wrong with the system. It's been the way it is since 1963 and it generates income from those willing to pay (novel).

All you need to do before buying a plate is read the information provided freely by the DVLA.

Three possible solutions:

1. Buy a newer car
2. Sell it to someone with a newer car (and same name)
3. Change your name to XC51BBF

DVLA's. they prpbably hung onto it thinking they would make a killing and not realising that the car stopped being made just about then. Very limited market for it.
