Considering selling…am I wrong?

Had my Mk1 for about 2 years now, run like a dream, only cost tyres and servicing, love the car, love the ‘experience’ but now struggling to justify it.
I cycle to work mainly and do a lot of short journeys and rarely get to stretch the legs of the TVR.
I have also recently bought a Mk 1 elise (technically for the missis) and am enjoying its truly simplistic fun (can be enjoyed at 30mph and not having to wait 10 mins for it to warm up).
I currently have 4 cars – Puma (missis - considering selling), Elise (bought to do up and sell – now considering keeping), Clio 172 (my sensible car – but considering selling due to it being poor on the m’way) and the TVR (toy but not used as much as I’d like).
I do not think that the TVR will depreciate much more but I am attempting to simplify my life and the TVR is something that I spend a lot of time and money on.
My thoughts were to keep the elise for me (and the missis can drive it – but will not drive the TVR) and buy a 330i (or something of that ilk) for motorway miles – hence cut down to two cars.
Main advantage of the elise for me is that I would not have to worry about using it for short journeys.
Am I mad? What do you think mk 1’s will bottom out at?
There is also that niggle at the back of my mind that I have been extra lucky with the Tiv running so well and maybe my luck might run out and I could be faced with big bills…….

Much as I love my car and wouldn't sell it you have to choose what best fits for you, the Elise is a fun little car, personally I wouldn't swap my Tuscan for one, but have considered changing the MX5 for one.
Price wise I think Tuscans have actually picked up rather than bottomed out, mine suits me because of the performance but also the touring capabilities, I need to find a way of stop using it, rather than have the issue of not using enough.

i've sort of been there. I ended up with 3 cars: a family car (wife + children); Tuscan (toy); and a BMW 3 series as my sensible car. I traded in the BMW for pedal power. We are now a two car family! I cant really justify keeping the TVR but neither can I bring myself to sell her. It's a long term love affair and my wife allows me this indulgence! I know of many others in similar circumstances. If you are doing lots of short journeys independent of your partner then I wouldnt (personally) use any high performance car. Short journey's ruin all cars! But i'd feel less guilty trashing a cheap run around than something of real value into which i've poured more than just cash.

I just feel like I am potentially risking having a significant outlay (eg if the engine went pop) when I don't get to use it that often.
I'm looking at going travelling next summer for a few months so would definately be selling next year - its just weather I sell now or keep it for another year....

from what i've seen the prices have gone up considerably since i bought mine last year (about 3000)
don't think they'll drop again but if you're definitly selling next year then whats the problem with selling now ?
saves you MOT, insurance tax and perhaps agony
had a lot of nice cars
always bought something nice back again
so in due time there will be another

Keep the Tuscan and the Clio. Sell the Puma and the Lotus for an everyday sporty sedan/wagon. Sorted.
That was my original plan but.....The Lotus is easier to run (getting 50mpg!)
The g/f can drive it - have not decided it that is a good thing or not!(TVR scares her)
That gives me three cars instead of a potential two = more cost/hassle.

I agree but I really think the Elise and TVR's are fairly unique in the fun/£ the offer.don't think they'll drop again but if you're definitly selling next year then whats the problem with selling now ?

I cannot think of another car under £20k I can buy that ticks the same boxes
Possibly Z4M and 996 911 convertible but they just feel a bit too 'sensible' for me!!
